Small But True

I became frustrated after calling the colleges for inviting them to participate in India's one of the biggest Sports fest Udghosh from the 3 hours continuously.Still I have to do more calling because there were still  50 colleges remaining in my calling list.I dialled the next number, it was from some ABC College.Someone picked the phone after some couple of rings.
"Hello" he said.
The name of the person in my database was Edward so I decided to talk in English due to such type of name which is very rare in India.
"Is it Mr. Edward" I asked.
"Han Ji Boliye Edward bol rahe h si"
I got shocked, this was not expected by me,the person named Edward talking in language seeming to be Punjabi.
Then I started in Hindi ,the same words that I was speaking from the last 3 hours,in hindi for some and english for some depending on the name of college and person.
"Gud Evening Sir,Main Vishwas Jain bol raha hu IIT Kanpur se.Humara college Annual Sports Festival organize karwa raha h 'Udghosh' 27 se 30 september tak aur hum chahte h ki apke college k bacche isme participate kare."
"Achha invite karne k liye dhanyavad ji, lekin ye batayengi ki apka college kon kon se sports me events karwa raha hai si."
"Lawn Tennis,T.T,Hockey,Athletics ,Taekwondo,chess,carom"
I intentionally does not tell him about the games like cricket,Basky, footie and bady because we had already registered more than pre decided teams in these games and then before fest we have to say no to some colleges that registered late or the college which does not satisfy our criteria and obviously this is not the right place to tell that criteria.
"Cricket nahi h kya apke"he asked.
"nahi sir cricket to nhi karwa rahe hum lekin sir Hockey or athletics hai ap usme register kar dijiye "
"Hockey kaha khelte h Bacche ajkal, hockey ki to team hi nahi h hamare pas "
"sir, Athletics h?"
"nahi uske bhi bacche nahi hai cricket hota to hum a jate "
"koi bat nahi sir Thank You"
I disconnected the phone and made a red mark on that college and dialled the next number.
But after completing my list I came to room and then I dont know why but that conversation came in my mind with Mr. Edward 'Punjabi'.From that whole 4 hour continuous calling I only remembered that conversation, those words 'Hockey kaha khelte h bacche ajkal' and our statistics also proved this. We have over registered teams in cricket but just a single team in Hockey till now and we  have some students only working for Hockey to improve participation in that otherwise we have to scrap that event which we dont want. This statistics also shows that why India won the U-19 world cup of cricket and the same country came last in Hockey in Olympics.
We have all the facilities of cricket in all the colleges and schools but very rare facilities of Hockey.And specially it was Ironical that a person from Punjab which is famous for Hockey said those words.
At the end of the day what we can do is to criticize the Govt. that it is not taking the right steps to improve the situation of our National Sports and one suggestion that every one can give is to make cricket as our National Sports.
